Fees for Municipal Waste Management as an Element of Sustainable Regional Development on the Example of Selected Cities in Poland

Abstract:

Purpose: The aim of the article is to present the impact of calculating fees for municipal waste management in terms of the protection of natural resources that are part of the sustainable development of selected cities. Design/Methodology/Approach: The article defines the concept of sustainable development, presents analyses of municipal waste management in Poland, and presents the relationship between the protection of natural resources and the method of calculating fees for municipal waste. Findings: The result of the article is the presentation of the impact of changes in the calculation of fees for municipal waste management on the protection of the natural environment, which is an element of sustainable development. Practical Implications: Research can contribute to better knowledge of the impact of waste management on the protection of basic natural resources. Originality/Value: The article is an introduction to further research in the field of municipal waste management in Poland, which is important from the point of view of statutory changes in this area related to the country’s desire to achieve the intended recycling levels and the need to protect basic natural resources.
